Recruitment sourcing: a highly valued concept for businesses

To ensure the smooth operation and prosperity of a company, the importance of human capital goes without saying. To maintain high-quality human resources, companies must utilize the best recruitment methods to identify the top talent for every available position. With the integration of digital tools into the hiring process, “sourcing” has become a key term in recruitment, aimed at achieving a better match between a candidate’s profile and the job requirements. But what exactly is meant by recruitment sourcing, and why are so many companies increasingly drawn to this concept?

What is recruitment sourcing?

Derived from the English word “to source,” the term sourcing more precisely means “finding candidates.” In the field of Human Resources recruitment management, opting for sourcing refers specifically to the process of searching for candidates who precisely match the profiles established by a company for a given position. Although the sourcing and recruitment is limited to sourcing and selecting the best candidates for hire; in this case, it serves as a preliminary stage to the actual recruitment process. Once this process is complete and the company has identified the ideal profile, it must then move to the evaluation stage and conduct an interview before making a final hiring decision.

How to approach sourcing?

There are various ways to approach sourcing:

  • Internal sourcing: This recruitment process can be conducted internally, most often within the company’s Human Resources department. The HR specialist begins their search by scanning the existing talent pool within the company’s databases or professional directories.
  • Sourcing Outsourcing: In this outsourcing process, sourcing is entrusted to a specialized external provider. This provider conducts research via the web or through cold calling techniques, and manages searches within CV databases and talent pools. Because this is an outsourced model, companies can delegate specific tasks, much like the majority of businesses that outsource outbound calling and database management.

Why are companies increasingly turning to sourcing-driven recruitment?

Recruitment sourcing offers several advantages:

  • Cost Reduction

One of the primary advantages of recruitment sourcing is the reduction of both costs and time-to-hire within the recruitment process. In practice, hiring a new employee is a mission that requires several essential stages. Although sourcing is only one part of the recruitment phases, the sourcer handles the most time-consuming and labor-intensive tasks, namely searching for and selecting the best candidates for the position. To achieve this, the sourcing specialist must prepare the job description, distribute it across various channels, and evaluate candidate resumes. However, by opting for recruitment sourcing, companies benefit from a single, all-inclusive rate for all these services.

  • A targeted approach

Another advantage of the recruitment process using the sourcing method is that it is a targeted approach, allowing companies to achieve high-quality results as quickly as possible. The sourcer, an expert in identifying potential talent, relies on precise criteria and profiles to find the most suitable candidates.

In this role, they utilize a wide range of sources and are not limited to a single channel or medium. Sourcers instead look for profiles within personal networks, telephone directories, online databases (social and professional networks, CV repositories, etc.), and more. With the increasing relevance of social and professional networks, many sourcing specialists are focusing on utilizing and developing technical skills related to Boolean search to identify candidates who are a perfect fit for the position.
