How to install a water heater
Want to know how to install your new water heater? Follow the steps listed below.
If you are a DIY enthusiast, you may find yourself tasked with replacing or installing a hot water tank. Whether it is a standard setup or an addition to a wall-mounted condensing boiler, your first priority should be to disconnect the electrical power supply and shut off the cold water supply at the meter.
Ensure that all connections and drainage systems are properly installed at your chosen location. Next, get your tools ready and unpack the equipment. To install and connect the water heater, follow these five steps:
Step 1: Drilling and fastening
- Start by marking the anchor points using a bubble level to ensure the desired horizontal alignment.
- Use the drill to create two identical holes, with a diameter matching the suspension anchors you will be using.
- Use expansion bolts to secure the button anchor into the hole.
After securing the anchor bolts, ask someone nearby to help you attach the balloon.
Step 2: Balloon Assembly
- Complete the tightening of the mounting bolts
- Screw the dielectric insulating fitting onto the red hot water outlet fitting, then screw on the blue cold water fitting.
- Mount the safety group on the blue cold water connection.
- Screw everything in by hand, then lock the assembly into the key.
Step 3: Securing the power braid
- Screw the power braid onto the safety group, ensuring the seal is properly in place.
- Connect the second end of the power braid to the supply line fitting.
- Screw the braid onto the water heater outlet.
- Secure the nuts on the braid connections.
- Screw the siphon bowl of the safety group onto the unit.
Step 4: Evacuation and Sealing
- Insert the drain pipe sleeve into the siphon outlet, then screw on the large nut to secure the connection and ensure a watertight seal.
- Use a fitting to ensure a watertight connection with the gray PVC drainpipe.
Step 5: Power Supply
Power is supplied through a specific circuit. It must be protected by a 30 mA residual current device (RCD). Open the cover located at the base of the unit, which houses the electrical components. Consult the manual to verify the correct wiring sequence. Connect the wires according to the color coding specified in the instructions. Before restoring power, fill the tank and ensure that water flows from the tap without any air bubbles. If properly installed, hot water will be available within minutes of turning the power back on.
