When is it time to replace your door lock cylinders?
When we encounter minor issues with our lock, we often tend to replace the entire door lock. However, it is possible to replace only the core component: the cylinder. You simply need to know how to change it and ensure all security standards are met.
Replacing the lock cylinder ensures our security
There are many reasons to want to replace a door lock cylinder. The problem is that we often keep a spare key, and sometimes we give one of these keys to a loved one. For instance, if that person were to have a falling out with us and stop speaking to us, it would be quite awkward to ask them to return the key. The best course of action is to replace the cylinder immediately. As a rule of thumb, we should always keep our keys ourselves or, at the very least, store them in a hidden spot within the house. Furthermore, when moving into a new home, it is advisable not to use the existing door lock; you never know, the previous owners might still possess a duplicate key. Indeed, we must remain highly vigilant regarding our security, and seeking help from a locksmith professional approach would always be necessary.
Replacing the lock cylinder when issues arise
Sometimes, we also encounter minor issues. We might lose our key; in such cases, replacing the lock or the cylinder becomes essential, as you never know—perhaps we lost our key on the street, and a thief picked it up and followed us home. Furthermore, if we lack a key to enter the house, we are forced to break down the door, which will undoubtedly damage the lock. As a side note, when a lock begins to stick, simply cleaning the cylinder with lubricant is often enough. If that does not work, however, we are left with no choice but to replace it. If we also wish to enhance our home security, we can upgrade the lock cylinder to a new, high-quality, multi-functional model. We should keep in mind that a locksmith installation is not that easy; you still need to call a reliable and insured locksmith.
