Jouyet shifts focus from Europe to the AMF
The Secretary of State for European Affairs has been appointed as the “stock market watchdog,” effective this December.
He did not wait for the end of the French presidency of the European Union. Confirming the rumors, the Elysée announced on November 14 that the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, has been appointed to lead the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).
He will succeed Michel Prada, whose term is set to expire on November 21, 2008. Jean-Pierre Jouyet is expected to step down from his current position in mid-December. Amidst the ongoing financial crisis, his responsibilities will notably include strengthening and adapting stock market regulations.
Originally from the Socialist Party, he joined Nicolas Sarkozy in May 2007 and did not intend to participate in the election campaign for the 2009 European elections.
