Americans face a sudden chill in Paris
American companies operating in France do not see a bright future for their activities within the country.
An “unprecedented drop” in investor confidence among Americans in France. This is the key finding from the latest annual barometer published by AmCham (the American Chamber of Commerce in Paris) and Bain, presented on October 22.
Only 19% (compared to 58% a year earlier) of those surveyed (executives of French subsidiaries of American companies) foresee a positive outlook for their industry in France for 2009.
This pessimism should not lead to a withdrawal from the country, as only 17% of those surveyed anticipate workforce reductions for the current year. Finally, a constant for at least eight years, 80% of respondents believe that “labor law flexibility” remains a weakness in France.
