The plan involved stabbing him amidst the crowd. These far-right sympathizers have been vocal in their opposition to the policies implemented by the President throughout his term. Although the plot was thwarted, the individuals were quickly taken into custody to facilitate the preliminary investigation. According to reports, the plan remains imprecise and ill-defined. However, an investigation is currently underway to determine whether this constitutes a crime committed by a terrorist criminal organization.

The Legal Perspective

Even if their criminal plot was not fully executed, the perpetrators are suspected of belonging to a criminal terrorist group. Under French criminal law, such an act is already punishable. Furthermore, since the reform of the Penal Code and the implementation of anti-terrorism laws, the prescribed penalties are quite severe. Consequently, instead of a 10-year prison sentence, perpetrators of such a crime face 20 years of imprisonment. This is not to mention fines that can reach as much as 500,000 euros. This underscores that French legislation already classifies an attempt as a crime as soon as suspects have carried out preparatory acts. In any case, to gain a deeper understanding of criminal law at this level, it is best to hiring a well-known criminal defense attorney can make all the difference.

The suspect in a terrorist attack

According to information received from French intelligence services, six individuals are involved in this assassination attempt on the President. Law enforcement is dealing with five men and one woman, typically aged between 22 and 62. However, the primary mastermind behind this crime is undoubtedly Jean-Pierre Bouyer, a retiree and activist for the radical far-right movement. He resides in the Isère department, where he conducts a campaign to recruit patriots. The alleged perpetrator intended to carry out the crime discreetly in Charleville-Mézières on November 7. To commit the offense, he had planned to bypass security checkpoints by using a ceramic knife, a material that cannot be detected by metal detectors.

Criminal Confessions

Following an investigation into the members of the criminal group, they have confessed to planning an attack against the President of the Republic. However, the police investigation focused primarily on the most determined among them: Jean-Pierre Bouyer. Indeed, an audit of his Facebook account revealed criticisms of Emmanuel Macron, as well as suspicious videos denouncing globalization and capitalism. It should be noted, however, that this individual had already been under investigation by the French intelligence agency since October 31. This surveillance was originally prompted by alarmist remarks directed at President Emmanuel Macron and his ties to the far-right identitarian movement.

On November 7, during the November 11 commemorations, a group of criminals planned an attack against President Emmanuel Macron.
