What to do if you lose your vehicle registration certificate?<\/h2>\n

In this situation, the first step is to file a loss report with the prefecture<\/a> or sub-prefecture. Following this declaration, you will be issued a two-part receipt. In the event of theft, you must file a police report immediately. Unlike reporting a lost item, a theft report must be filed at a police station or gendarmerie. Once the report is filed, you will be issued a two-part receipt, which will allow you to continue driving for one month while you prepare your application for a duplicate.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, the process is exactly the same as in the event of a loss. Naturally, when you switch vehicles, you must complete the entire procedure again, just as you did with your previous car.
