Exploring Tourism in South Africa
Among the most wonderful places in the world, South Africa is undoubtedly one of them. Its vast array of natural flora and fauna highlights just how unique a journey through Africa is compared to other continents. In truth, a visit to South Africa is always worthwhile, as there are countless tourist destinations that are incredibly interesting and beautiful to behold every single day. The country’s blend of sublime beauty and untamed wilderness serves as a powerful reminder of nature’s ability to produce truly astonishing and breathtaking phenomena. While there are many destinations suitable for tourism, there are also many perfect for a getaway. Here are a few must-see locations in South Africa.
The Garden Route
The Garden Route is one of the most popular destinations for both tourists and artists in South Africa. Located in Cape Town, this route extends to Port Elizabeth, specifically nestled between the Drakensberg Mountains and the Indian Ocean. Thanks to this unique setting between mountain and sea, the Garden Route offers a magnificent landscape and access to stunning white-sand beaches, providing the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.
An excellent spot for hiking, this route is also ideal for a motorcycle touring in South Africa. Beyond that, the climate in Route des Jardins is soothing; an oceanic climate, and the most temperate in South Africa. After Hawaii, it is also the second most temperate climate in the world. Consequently, temperatures rarely fall below 10 degrees and rarely rise above 28 degrees.
This part of South Africa offers even more touristic assets beyond its beauty and atmosphere. In fact, if you visit the Garden Route at the right time, you might also catch a glimpse of the migrating whales.
Victoria Falls
In addition to the Garden Route, there are also Victoria Falls, which stand as one of South Africa’s most remarkable landmarks. Serving as a border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, these falls feature the Zambezi River plunging from a height of over 100 m, forming a curtain 1.7 km wide. The average flow rate of the falls is 550,000 cubic meters of water per minute. Due to its extraordinary and spectacular nature, Victoria Falls is recognized as one of the 7 wonders of the world.
The ideal time to visit is from April to June. During this period, the mist is denser, offering the chance to see magnificent rainbows over the falls. Outside of the April to June window, the most spectacular phenomena at Victoria Falls are less visible. Arriving during a full moon also provides the best opportunity to witness a lunar rainbow. Consequently, the park remains open at night during the full moon so that visitors can enjoy this spectacular sight.
