Moving Tips
A move requires preparation, not just a week in advance, but over a period of at least one or two months! To ensure everything proceeds smoothly and calmly… peace of mind, here are a few highly useful tips for your consideration.
Essential Preparations
As soon as you are aware of your new address and your intention to move, the most important step is to request your statutory leave entitlements from your employer. Remember that it is essential for you to be present during the packing, loading, transportation, and unpacking of your furniture and belongings.
Set any date that you will communicate to the company moving to Paris who will handle your relocation, ensuring that all necessary materials are prepared. For convenience, we will refer to this date as “Day J,” provided it does not fall on a public holiday or a weekend. Please also set aside 2 or 3 days following Day J to ensure your move is completed on schedule.
Contact moving companies to request free, no-obligation quotes for your moving day. Obtaining multiple estimates is essential to compare prices and determine the most cost-effective option for your needs. Additionally, inquire whether post-move cleaning is included in the service. This is crucial, as you are responsible for cleaning and restoring the property you vacated to ensure you receive your security deposit back. Finally, please confirm whether your belongings will be insured against breakage or loss during and after transit, and clarify who will be liable for any damages incurred.
Handle all your legal paperwork with ease
Before moving, please clearly communicate your exact new address to your bank, your children’s schools, your internet service provider, your auto insurance company, your mobile and landline service providers, and your office.
You must also settle all rental charges and handle the lease termination with the landlord of your previous residence. Similarly, notify your utility providers (water, electricity, and gas) so they can arrange for meter readings and necessary adjustments at both your old and new homes.
Two days before moving day, defrost your refrigerator and freezer to ensure they are ready for transport. All furniture and belongings must be packed, labeled, and securely fastened or tied before being moved. Please maintain an inventory of all items being transported, which will be verified upon arrival.
After all this, you will see that your move will go off without a hitch!
